We will be applying monthly patches across our backend infrastructure starting at 2022-01-28 at 07:00 PST. The maintenance period is expected to last for 10 hours total. In scope for this maintenance window are the following changes: * Backend database upgrade for select backend services to the next LTS release * OS upgrade of kubernetes worker nodes to next LTS release
This month's maintenance will result in extended downtime of the following services:
The services that in scope are expected to be down for approximately 1 hour after the database upgrades are initiated. This means that:
* There is a chance that transfers will fail due to the entitlement server being unreachable. This might also affect self-managed HSTS instances not managed by Aspera which use an entitlement. The entitlement server is called upon regularly by all HSTS instances using an entitlement, but there are grace periods that are built-in which should prevent transfers from failing if the entitlement server can't be reached temporarily. If a new server installation tries to entitle itself for the first time during the maintenance window, it will fail. If any problems arise during the maintenance window that do not resolve themselves automatically, please restart the asperalee service on your HSTS servers.
* Automation App workflows will not be able to be scheduled. There will be a delay for queued workflow jobs during the maintenance window.
* Watermarking jobs will not able to be scheduled. If you organization requires packages to have watermarking, then expect a delay for packages to be delivered during the maintenance window.
Most of the time for the maintenance window will be allotted to the OS upgrade of kubernetes worker nodes, which will result in a rolling restart across our backend infrastructure. There may be times that other backend services will become unavailable as processes get restarted and re-shuffled around. API calls might fail in-flight during this time or events being ingested may take longer to be processed. However, it is expected that these interruptions should self-resolve quickly. If you experience a prolonged interruption during this time, please open a support ticket. The DevSecOps team will be actively monitoring the upgrade during this time.
